7Midnights Physical Research (7MPR)
is a creative dance theater project which combines dance and live music in it’s ongoing concert series. It has two-branch programs: 7MPR Themed Dance Theater and 7MPR Themed Cultural Dance Collective. The Midnight Performance Series focuses on NYC based artists and has been creating engaging shows since 2019. Our main program,
7MPR Themed Dance Theater is an experimental dance and music theater focusing on performance with 7 themes of social issues: Class, Education, Ability, Sexuality, Race, Age, Gender. By producing shows and bringing artists together with a diverse view of performing arts in dance and music, 7MPR has established a wonderful “Wonderland” of NYC artists community. During the COVID-19 time, 7MPR has continued its operation running free virtual shows for artists who are still making dance and music works in hopes of giving it’s artist the platform to reflect on the hardships of being COVID era artists. It also provide a safe space and platform for people to have access to watch diverse and incredible works from talented 7MPR artists.
With increasing violent cases of Asian Hate since 2020, 7MPR host in-person performances in August, 2021, after its a year long COVID virtual performances history. Back to in-person with a Solidarity Performance event, 7MPR started bringing artists together to its live performances again based on the subject of “Stop Asian Hate and Any Hate.” This special Solidarity Performance has been marked as the Seventh Midnight Performance as the end of COVID virtual history, which highlighted the topic of Anti-Asian Racism as its first transitional show shifting into COVID safe in person live performances. Another brilliant records of 7MPR dance history has been started since then.
In 2022, 7MPR has successfully returned to its original performing space at Arts On Site (3F), the partnership of 7MPR Themed Dance Theater, where we used to collaborate with and host performance events. There were four in-person shows have been successfully done in 2022, and continuing with the rest of three Midnights Performance series of 7MPR Themed Dance Theater in 2023.
In the meantime, we are going to start our fundraiser as important goal of financial support for 7MPR's performances 2023-2024, which includes the financial need for: the rent of the performance space, compensations for artists ($40-50 for each artist or even higher rate), photographers, videographers, and film editors, graphic designers, as well as all the supplies for in-person shows in the future. Indeed, 7MPR hopes to get financial support from all kinds of arts communities and organizations annually, in this way, to keep the performing art alive, support human rights and social justice with the power of performing art in dance and music. Therefore, our goal is to raise $3,000 to cover the costs of the need of production.
